Heavy Highway General Contractors
ROTHA is a Connecticut-based heavy highway general contractor specializing in bridge construction, demolition, dam construction & rehabilitation, sheet piling and earth support systems, pile driving, localized paint removal, field bridge painting, drainage, utility work, pump stations, and site development.
Since 1991, we have delivered complex infrastructure projects for public and private clients throughout Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island. Backed by more than 60 years of industry experience, our team is committed to providing safe, high-quality construction solutions that strengthen the communities we serve.
Bridge Construction & Rehabilitation
ROTHA performs new bridge construction and structural rehabilitation on highway and municipal structures of all types and sizes. Our work includes superstructure replacement, deck reconstruction, bearing and expansion joint replacement, concrete repair, and structural steel erection. We routinely perform phased construction within active roadways to maintain traffic flow and keep projects on schedule.
Demolition
ROTHA performs controlled demolition of bridges, retaining walls, abutments, piers, and other highway structures. Each project is supported by a detailed demolition plan addressing sequencing, temporary support, shoring, and debris management, with particular attention to over-water and over-traffic operations where protection of the public and surrounding environment is critical.
Dam Construction & Rehabilitation
ROTHA constructs and rehabilitates earthen, concrete, and composite dam structures. Our scope includes embankment construction, spillway and outlet works, control structure replacement, riprap placement, and erosion protection. We also perform underwater concrete repairs where required.
Sheet Piling & Earth Support Systems
ROTHA designs and installs earth retention systems for highway construction, bridge substructures, and utility excavations. We evaluate site-specific geotechnical conditions to deliver sheet piling, soldier pile and lagging, and tieback anchor systems that address groundwater control, excavation stability, and protection of adjacent infrastructure.
Pile Driving
ROTHA installs steel and precast concrete piles for bridge substructures, retaining walls, and highway foundation systems. We perform load testing to verify capacity and maintain detailed installation records to meet DOT and project requirements. Our crews are experienced working within active highway corridors and constrained conditions.
Micropiles
ROTHA installs micropiles in locations where access is restricted, or conventional driven piles are not feasible. We own multiple specialty drill rigs that are specially designed to drill in limited access locations. We drill through variable soils and bedrock, install and grout steel elements to design specifications, and perform load testing to verify capacity. This method is well suited for working beneath existing structures and within limited right-of-way.
Drilled Shafts & Caissons
ROTHA drills and installs large-diameter shafts and caissons for bridge piers, abutments, and heavy highway structures requiring deep foundation support. We manage the full installation process from excavation through concrete placement, maintaining consistent quality control and documentation throughout.
Hazardous Paint Removal (AMPP / SSPC-QP2 Certified)
ROTHA is AMPP-QP2 certified for the removal of lead-based and other hazardous coatings from bridges and steel structures. We design and install full containment systems over active travel lanes and waterways, perform continuous air monitoring, and manage hazardous material handling and disposal in compliance with all regulatory requirements.
Field Application of Coatings (AMPP / SSPC-QP1 Certified)
As an AMPP-QP1 certified contractor, ROTHA applies protective coating systems to bridges and structural steel in the field. Our crews are experienced with surface preparation and multi-coat application systems required for DOT projects, executing each phase in accordance with project specifications.
Drainage
ROTHA constructs highway storm drainage systems including pipe culverts, catch basins, manholes, headwalls, and outlet protection. We perform this work within active roadway environments, coordinating closely with grading, paving, and environmental requirements.
Utility Work
ROTHA performs underground utility relocation and installation in support of roadway and bridge projects. Our work includes water main, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, and electrical conduit installation. We coordinate with utility owners, manage required notifications, and execute work using both open-cut and trenchless methods.
Site Work
ROTHA performs mass grading, structural excavation, embankment construction, subbase and base course placement, and final site restoration. We self-perform earthwork operations with our own equipment and crews to maintain control over schedule and quality.
Marine Construction
ROTHA performs in-water construction in support of bridge and infrastructure projects, including pile-supported structures, bulkheads, fender systems, and scour protection. We work within tidal, river, and reservoir environments and operate in full compliance with environmental permitting requirements.
Piping Systems
ROTHA installs underground piping as part of our drainage, utility, and pump station work. Our scope includes pipe, culverts, catch basins, manholes, headwalls, and valve vaults. We self-perform trenching, bedding, installation, and connections in active roadways, coordinating with earthwork, grading, bridge structures, and other utilities. All piping work meets required standards for materials, bedding, compaction, and testing.
Committed to Safety on Every Jobsite
ROTHA takes safety seriously on every job. Safety is part of how we plan, manage, and execute all projects. We focus on safe work practices from start to finish. That includes reviewing site conditions, communicating clearly, using the right equipment and protective gear, and addressing hazards.
ROTHA’s work includes bridges, site development, utility work, drainage, and concrete and structural repairs.
On every project, we focus on planning, coordination, and steady execution to help keep the work moving and deliver results.
